Myanmar Peasants Day
2 March 2008 - Since Myanmar gained independence in 1948, Myanmar Peasants Day had been celebrated on the 1st January every year until the start of the Revolution Council era in 1962. During the Revolution Council period, activities in connection with the abolishment of landownership systems influenced under the capatalism were implemented. Under the implementations, Peasants Conferences were held: from 30-12-62 to 1-1-63 in Ohnn Taw village, Sagaing township, from 30-1-63 to 1-2-63 in Duya village, Hinthada township, from 30-12-63 to 2-1-64 in Pupa village, Kyaukpadaung township, and from 2-3-64 to 6-3-64 in Kapaung village, Taungoo township. It was decided at the conference in March 1964 that Myanmar Peasants Day to be held on the every 2nd March starting from the following year. It is an auspicious day to express our appreciation to all Myanmar peasants who bring food on our dining table. With this short note, we would like to congratulate and express our sincere appreciation to our fellow Myanmar peasants.
